Japanese Automakers' Output Plunges In February

Toyota, Honda and Nissan reported grim global production figures as an industry group predicted domestic sales will fall 8 percent for the fiscal year through March 2010.

TOKYO (AP) -- Toyota Motor Corp. says its global production plunged 49.6 percent in February from a year earlier.

Honda Motor Co. and Nissan Motor Co. also report similarly grim figures Tuesday, highlighting the woes facing Japanese automakers.

Separately, the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association says auto sales in Japan for the fiscal year through March 2010 are expected to drop 8 percent from the previous year.

It predicts a 32-year low of 4.297 million vehicles.
