Toyota Cuts Production At W. Virginia Plant

Japanese automaker is adding at least six non-production days at its Buffalo, W.Va., engine and transmission plant.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- A Toyota official says the company will cut back production at its West Virginia engine and transmission plant.

The plant's vice president for manufacturing, Jeff Moore, says Toyota is adding at least six non-production days at the Buffalo plant.

Toyota originally planned to stop production for just two days this month.

Under the revised schedule, the company is adding two non-production days this month and will extend the days to the first week of January.

Moore says full-time employees will not be laid off and the company will use the non-production days for training.

The cutbacks come as Toyota tries to weather the economic downturn. The company reported November's sales were down 34 percent.
