Rentech, International Paper Delay Land Deal

An issue involving mineral rights on International Paper's old factory site has delayed the closing of a land transaction between Rentech and IP.

NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) -- An issue involving mineral rights on International Paper's old factory site has delayed the closing of a land transaction between Adams County, Rentech Inc. and IP.

The closing had been scheduled Friday but officials now say it won't happen for another 30 to 60 days because the mineral rights owners have to be contacted.

Rentech wants to build a chemical development plant on the 475-acre parcel of land that, for now, is owned by IP.

The Chairman of the Natchez-Adams County Development Authority, Woody Allen, said it would have been impossible to circulate the necessary legal documentation to all mineral rights owners by Friday.

Allen said the 12-15 mineral rights owners are scattered throughout the South.
