BMW Spending $750 Million To Expand U.S. Plant

The automaker said Monday it will add 1.2 million square feet of production space to its manufacturing facility in South Carolina and create 500 new jobs.

GREER, South Carolina (AP) — BMW says it will spend $750 million (euro489 million) to expand its manufacturing facility in South Carolina and create 500 new jobs.
 
The company said Monday it will add 1.2 million square feet (0.11 million sq. meters) of production space. It says work already has begun with the construction of new paint shop facilities.
 
BMW says it will build a new hybrid vehicle unveiled in the fall and diesel-powered models at the plant.
 
The company started producing cars in Greer in 1994 and now makes 155,000 a year. BMW says that will increase to 240,000 yearly during the next four years.
