Weyerhaeuser Speeds Up Sawmill Closing

Toutle, Wash.-based Green Mountain Sawmill, which was originally set to close at the end of August, will now close on May 1, according to the forest-products company.

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. (AP) — Weyerhaeuser Co. said it will speed up plans to close a sawmill in Toutle, Wash. suffering from weak wood product demand.
 
The Green Mountain Sawmill, which was originally set to close at the end of August, will now close on May 1, according to the forest-products company.Weyerhaeuser said the 100 workers impacted by the closing will be provided benefit details, while customer orders will be met by adjusting internal production efforts.
 
The company is currently building a new lumber mill in Longview, Wash., which is targeted to run this year.
 
On Monday, Weyerhaeuser said it closed its veneer-drying facility in Junction City, Ore., laying off 56 employees
