Wind-turbine Co. Gets New Order, Opens Plant

Two days before it officially starts operations at a new plant in northern Colorado, a Danish company receives a new order for 109 turbines.

DENVER (AP) — A Danish company that is opening a wind-turbine manufacturing plant in Windsor has received a new order for 109 turbines.

The announcement by Vestas comes two days before it officially starts operations at a new plant in northern Colorado. The plant in Windsor will employ about 600 people and produce blades for roughly 600 wind turbines each year.

The factory will be the company's first manufacturing operation in North America. Vestas has already built 32,000 turbines around the world, including 9,400 in Canada and the United States.

Governor Bill Ritter has said the plant will help bolster Colorado's efforts to become a renewable energy center.
