Porsche To Resume 911 Production

Luxury car maker will resume production of its 911 line of sports cars next week; automaker suspended operations after a plant explosion.

STUTTGART, Germany (AP) â€” Luxury car maker Porsche AG will resume production of its 911 line of sports cars next week, the company said Friday.

Production of Porsche's iconic 911 was halted Monday after a plant explosion in Germany. Two workers were injured in the gas explosion at the Zuffenhausen factory, the only facility that produces the 911.

The plant usually has an output of 160 cars a day. The company says it expects to make up this week's production shortfall of 800 cars over the course of the year.

The automaker said gas leaked from a drying oven in the paint shop and ignited. the workers injured in the blast have been released from hospital.

Shares of Porsche Automobil Holding SE, the automaker's parent company, were up 1.1 percent Friday to euro1,146.29 (US$1,733.31).
