AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) — Auto supplier BorgWarner Inc. said Monday it expanded its facility in Oroszlany, Hungary, to help meet growing European demand for turbochargers.
The new 50,000-square-foot building will provide added manufacturing, training, development and administrative space, BorgWarner said.
With the expansion, the four-building complex now totals more than 145,000 square feet. It employs about 600 people and produces turbochargers for more than 50 car models for customers in Europe, China, India and Mexico, the company said.
BorgWarner said it expects demand for its turbocharging technologies to grow as automakers around the world work to achieve lower emissions, better fuel efficiency and improved performance.
The Hungarian plant produced 1.5 million units in 2007, up from 40,000 when it opened in 2000.
BorgWarner shares fell $1.23, or 2.6 percent, to $45.37 in midday trading.
