Chrysler Investing $27 Million In Toledo Plant

Investment will be spent for the manufacturing of a redesigned automatic transmission torque converter and production of a new steering column; decision will protect 200 jobs.

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Chrysler LLC said Monday that the automaker will invest more than $27 million in its Toledo Machining Plant, an investment that should retain about 200 jobs.

Chrysler Vice Chairman and President Tom LaSorda says the money will be spent for the manufacturing of a redesigned torque converter for automatic transmissions and production of a new steering column.

LaSorda told the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce that the company has a stake in the city's future. Auburn Hills, Mich.-based Chrysler has invested $3.9 billion in its Toledo manufacturing operations since 2001.

Chrysler's Toledo Machining Plant, in suburban Perrysburg, employs 1,530 people.
