Brunswick Bowling Shuttering Wisconsin Pin Plant

Brunswick Bowling & Billiards closing its production facility in Antigo immediately, cutting about 70 jobs as it sends pin production to a contract manufacturer.

ANTIGO, Wis. (AP) — Brunswick Bowling & Billiards said Monday it is closing its production facility in Antigo immediately, cutting about 70 jobs as it sends pin production to a contract manufacturer.

Employees were told of the closure Monday and will be paid for 60 days, even though the closure is effective immediately, Brunswick said in a news release. The company will meet with local union agents to determine benefits, including severance.

Brunswick Bowling & Billiards, a unit of Lake Forest, Ill.-based Brunswick Corp., said it is sending pin production to QubicaAMF's plant in Lowville, N.Y.

Brunswick Bowling & Billiards is one of the largest operators of full-service bowling and family recreation centers in North America and supplies bowling equipment, billiards tables and consumer products.

Company president Warren N. Hardie said customers should not notice the shift because it will continue to offer its Brunswick and Vulcan brands.

The Antigo plant's closure is expected to result in charges of about $4.5 million this year, Brunswick said.

Shares of Brunswick fell 8 cents, or 0.52 percent, to $15.42 in early trading Monday.
