Goodyear Halts Production At Kansas Plant

Tire and rubber company will halt production Monday for one week at its median radial truck tire division in Topeka, idling 500 of the plant's 1,600 employees.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) -- Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. will halt production for one week at its median radial truck tire division in Topeka.

Goodyear spokeswoman Amy Brei says the temporary shutdown will begin Monday, idling 500 of the plant's 1,600 employees.

It's the third temporary shutdown this year at the Topeka plant. The same division was idled for a week in September and a week in March.

Goodyear says the shutdown is a result of lower demand for original equipment semitrailer tires and the overall slowdown in the economy.
