Therma-Tru To Close Virginia Plant

Citing the downturn in the U.S. housing market, Therma-Tru Corp. says it plans to close its plant in Spotsylvania County next July.

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (AP) -- Citing the downturn in the U.S. housing market, Therma-Tru Corp. says it plans to close its plant in Spotsylvania County next July.

About 200 workers are employed at the plant, which was built by General Products in 1961. Therma-Tru acquired the facility in 2000.

The plant manufactures steel-edge doors and frames and assembles door systems.

Vice president of manufacturing Bob Keller says the slumping housing market has forced Therma-Tru to realign its production capacity.

Transitional help and job-search training will be offered to workers.
