CNH Global Keeping Illinois Plant Open

Two years after announcing plans to shutter the facility, heavy-equipment manufacturer says it will now expand its farm-implement plant in Goodfield and increase its work force.

GOODFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Heavy-equipment manufacturer CNH Global says it will not close a central Illinois plant, two years after announcing plans to shutter the facility.

CNH now says it will expand the farm-implement plant in Goodfield, which is about 15 miles east of Peoria, and increase its work force.

The plant earlier this year had about 150 full- and part-time workers.

Netherlands-based CNH initially said it would close the plant by the end of 2007, moving its work to Canada. The plant had about 200 employees at the time and was one of Woodford County's largest employers.

The company says it changed its plan after the successful launch of several new products and gains in market share.
