International Paper Temporarily Closing Plant

Company will temporarily shut down its Louisiana mill in Bastrop for 10 days next month to match its inventory with market demand.

BASTROP, La. (AP) -- International Paper says it will temporarily shut down its Louisiana Mill in Bastrop for 10 days next month to match its inventory with market demand.

Company officials said Wednesday that the shut down is set to begin on September 21.

Mill manager Greg Van Voorhis says described current marketplace conditions as soft. But he says IP officials don't anticipate further closings.

Van Voorhis says employees will be allowed to use any unused vacation during the downtime.

International Paper is Morehouse Parish's largest private employer with more than 500 workers and a $30 million annual payroll.
