Jeld-Wen Shuttering Plant In Georgia

Window and door manufacturer said it will end manufacturing operations at its plant in Gainesville and expects to lay off about 40 employees.

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- Window and door manufacturer Jeld-Wen has announced it will end manufacturing operations at its plant in Gainesville.

Company spokeswoman Teri Cline said the change was necessary due to a downturn in the housing industry. She said the facility will be used for a sales and distribution office.

Oregon-based Jeld-Wen expects to layoff about 40 employees, but Cline said the facility could reopen in the future.

Jeld-Wen purchased the Gainesville plant in December 2004.
