Ohio Parents Sue Baby Bottle Manufacturers

Four Ohio parents have filed a class-action lawsuit against makers of baby bottles, including Evenflo, claiming the bottles were made from harmful chemicals.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Four Ohio parents have filed a class-action lawsuit against makers of baby bottles, claiming the bottles were made from harmful chemicals.

The lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Columbus alleges the companies knew that a chemical known as bisphenol A was associated with health problems but didn't disclose the risk.

The National Toxicology Program said in a recent draft report that there is ''some concern'' that bisphenol A can cause changes in behavior and the brain. But an official with the Food and Drug Administration has told Congress that the level of exposure in plastic baby bottles is safe.

The lawsuit names five companies, including Vandalia, Ohio-based Evenflo Co. The company didn't immediately return a message seeking comment Wednesday.
