Jeansmaker Closes Kentucky Plant

Closing will affect 254 workers; source says product demand spurred decision.

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A denim jeansmaker will close its Hopkinsville manufacturing plant later this year, company officials said.

The Flynn Enterprises plant, which has 254 workers, will close Oct. 1, the company said in a statement.

The closing was ''necessitated by current product demand and customer decisions,'' human resources director Michelle Walker said.

It is at least the third plant closed in recent years by the Hopkinsville-based company. A plant in Elkton that employed about 500 people closed in 2005, and a plant in Allegre that employed 179 people closed in 2004.
