Norphlet Chemical Opens Arkansas Plant

$14 million manufacturing facility in southern Arkansas will employ 44 workers to produce automotive refrigerant R134A.

NORPHLET, Ark. (AP) - Norphlet Chemical will begin production at a $14 million manufacturing facility in the south Arkansas town, employing 44 workers, the company announced Thursday.

The chemical manufacturer said the average wages for the new jobs will be $22 per hour.

''This is a great day for Norphlet and Union County,'' Gov. Mike Beebe said. ''Norphlet Chemical's investment in southern Arkansas is one we hope to see repeated by other companies many times over in the near future.''

The plant will make the chemical R134A, which is used as a refrigerant in cars.

''The jobs being created will have a strong economic impact on Norphlet,'' said Norphlet Mayor Jim Crotty. ''The company has growth potential and we look forward to a long and prosperous relationship.''
