Delphi Opening Romanian Plant

Plant will expand the company's diesel business in Europe and employ 1,000 people.

NEW YORK (AP) - Automotive supplier Delphi Corp. said Monday it plans to open a diesel-engine plant in Romania later this year, expanding the company's diesel business in Europe.

Delphi is in bankruptcy protection after its North American business struggled amid sharp production cuts by U.S. carmakers.

The plant is slated to open in Iasi, in the northeastern part of Romania, and could employ more than 1,000 staff. Delphi said demand in Europe for its diesel engine systems is on the rise.
