Baltimore County Has Sweet Spot For Bakery Express

Company lead tenant in a 210,000 square-foot manufacturing facility.

HALETHORPE, Md. (AP) - Bakery Express Mid-Atlantic Inc. will be the lead tenant for a new, 210,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in southwestern Baltimore County and plans to employ more than 300 people there, county officials announced Tuesday.

Bakery Express provides baked goods to 7-Eleven stores in the mid-Atlantic and serves restaurants and specialty stores through its Ms. Desserts division. A third division, Jeanne's Gourmet, bakes goods for schools and fundraisers.

Baltimore-based Georgetown Bakery Management Corp., the parent company of Bakery Express, received a $500,000 loan from the county's Small Business Loan Partnership and a $250,000 loan from the county's Business Growth Fund. The money will allow the company to buy the 13-acre site in Halethorpe and build the new facility.

''These funds were established to help companies grow and make this type of capital and real estate investment,'' County Executive Jim Smith said. ''Not only will there be a new, modern plant here, but Bakery Express will be adding new jobs.''
