GE Opening Jet Engine Component Factory In Mississippi

The 200,000 square-foot facility is expected to be operational by early 2009 and employ over 100 people.

BATESVILLE, Miss. - General Electric Co. announced Tuesday that it will break ground this summer on a jet engine component factory near Batesville in northwest Mississippi.

GE Aviation is creating a 200,000 square-foot facility to specialize in advanced composite engine components. The groundbreaking is planned for August, with operations expected to begin by early 2009.

Based on current demand for jet engines, the company expects hiring to being in 2008, with the workforce anticipated to exceed 100 people within the first 18 months of operation.
