Air Bag Manufacturer Opening Plant In Cordova, North Carolina; Creating 200 Jobs.

BST Safety Textiles investing $35 million in area.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – BST Safety Textiles, a manufacturers of side curtain air bags for cars, announced Thursday plans to open a plant in Cordova, N.C., bringing 200 jobs to Richmond County, according to Gov. Mike Easley's office.

BST, a division of Narricott Industries based in Southampton, Penn.. will also invest $35 million in the area during the next three years.

The company will move into space in the International Textiles Group plant.

The new jobs will include technicians, weavers and material handlers. The average annual salary will be $29,000, compared to the Richmond County average salary of $24,800, according to the governor's office.

The company received a $200,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund, Easley said.
