Cleveland (AP) — Industrial parts manufacturer Eaton Corp. plans to close a hydraulics hose plant in northeast Ohio and move about 130 jobs to Mexico.
Eaton said it will close a plant in Mantua next year, moving 115 of its 193 jobs to a factory in nearby Aurora and the rest to Reynosa, Mexico. The Aurora plant, which now has 161 employees, will also lose 52 jobs to Mexico.
A plastics compounding plant in Aurora will not be affected by the consolidation, Eaton said Wednesday.
Eaton plans to offer the Ohio workers voluntary separation packages and will give severance packages to those who lose jobs.
William VanArsdale, president of Eaton’s hydraulics operations, said the move is needed to save money.
“We understand the impact this has on our employees and are taking steps to ensure these actions are carried out with care and concern for all the individuals involved,” VanArsdale said.
The Portage County plants were part of Eaton’s April purchase of the Synflex business unit of Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics Corp.
Cleveland-based Eaton has 60,000 employees and sells products in more than 125 countries, with locations in the United States, Europe, China, India, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Australia. It had sales of $11.1 billion in 2005.
