Virginia Textile Plant Closing Will Cut 500 Jobs

Plant managers at the Virginia-based International Textiles Group announced to employees the plant’s closing in early 2007.

Plant managers at the Virginia-based International Textiles Group announced to employees earlier this week the plant’s closing in early 2007.

According to reports, the closure is the result of foreign competition. The plant has been operating at 25 percent capacity due to fabrics being sourced from Asia.

Approximately 500 employees will be affected.

Burlington will move some of its operations in Hurt to Burlington, N.C., and Raeford, N.C., said Delores Sides, a company spokeswoman. Employees learned of the plant closing Tuesday.

International Textile Groups of Greensboro, N.C., was formed in 2004 by the merger of Burlington Industries and Cone Mills.
