Former Ormet Workers In Ohio Get DOL Grant

The DOL has awarded a $2.4 million grant to aid Ormet workers.

The U.S. Department of Labor announced Tuesday a $2.4 million grant to assist approximately 106 workers dislocated from Ormet Primary Reduction and Ormet Rolling Mills in Hannibal, Ohio.

The workers covered under the grant were certified for Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA), but did not qualify for a Trade Readjustment Allowance (TRA).

Workers from both facilities have been certified as eligible to apply for services through the TAA program. Some Ormet workers however, were involved in a labor dispute from September 2004 through December 2005, causing some of them to be ineligible for TRA.

The grant will be administered through the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services and will aid those workers not eligible for TRA.

National Emergency Grants are part of the Secretary's discretionary fund and are awarded based on a state’s ability to meet specific guidelines, such as plant closures or layoffs affecting more than 50 workers.
