GM Investing $300 Million In Tonawanda, N.Y. Engine Plant

New production work will retain 150 jobs.

General Motors announced Wednesday that it will invest $300 million in its GM Powertrain (GMPT) plant, in Tonawanda, N.Y, to manufacture its new dual overhead cam V-8 engine. Production is expected to begin in 2009.

GM's investment includes renovations to part of the plant, to start in the fall of 2007, and new machinery and tooling to support the engine production.

As a result of this new work, Tonawanda will retain 150 jobs; the Tonawanda plant has 1,860 employees.

With this announcement, GM's total investment in the GMPT Tonawanda plant is now at $1.5 billion for the last ten years.
