Vacuum-Cleaner Maker Oreck To Build Manufacturing Plant In Tennesee

Plant will employ about 100, mostly in assembly and material handling.

Oreck Corp., manufacturer of the popular eight-pound vacuum, said Monday it will build a manufacturing facility in Cookeville, Tenn., complementing the company's other manufacturing location in Long Beach, Mississippi.

Oreck said the plant will create at least 100 new jobs, the majority being assembly, material handlers and skilled trades.

"Additional manufacturing locations are necessary to meet consumer demand for new, innovative products and accommodate future growth," said Oreck President and CEO Tom Oreck.

The company entered into an agreement to purchase a 310-thousand-square-foot Cookeville facility from TRW Vehicle Safety Systems Inc.

"This is a positive development for Tennessee, Putnam County and Cookeville," said Governor Phil Bredesen. "Attracting good paying manufacturing jobs is an important part of our job creation strategy. Having our efforts embraced by an industry leader like Oreck is a strong endorsement of Tennessee's business climate."
