Energy drinks have been one of the more controversial beverages of late, and now many Major League baseball teams are restricting their use. Some teams have stopped providing them and are discouraging players from using them because of what they say are harmful side effects. However, the drinks can’t be banned because they are not prohibited in the sport’s collective bargaining agreement.

While the teams can’t issue an outright ban, they are discouraging the drinks. Many players disagree with the restrictions, arguing that fans are allowed to drink them at the games, and the drinks help them stay alert during the 162 games and frequent flights they make every year.
