Samsung US Factory To Begin Operations In January

Samsung plans to begin operations at its South Carolina washing machine factory this month.

Samsung plans to begin operations at its South Carolina washing machine factory this month as top executives wait on a tariff decision by the U.S. government.

Reuters reports that in November, the U.S. International Trade Commission recommended tariffs to prevent LG Electronics Inc. and Samsung from flooding the U.S. market with low-cost washers.

Reuters reports that U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to make a decision on the tariff recommendation early this year.

Samsung officials said tariffs would impair job creation at the $380 million South Carolina facility as well as raise product prices. When Samsung announced the investment in June, officials estimated the facility would create 950 jobs over the next three years. The plant is Samsung’s first U.S. appliances factory in three decades.
