Applied Materials Inc. says it spent $460,000 lobbying the federal government in the second quarter of the year on energy legislation and other issues.

That compares with $260,000 the company spent in the same quarter a year ago and $320,000 in the first quarter of this year, according to congressional disclosure forms.

Applied Materials provides technology used by solar panel and semiconductor manufacturers. It lobbied the U.S. House, Senate and various federal agencies on the American Clean Energy & Security Act, which would establish a cap-and-trade system to set limits on greenhouse gas emissions.

The company also said that it lobbied to get a temporary suspension on tariffs covering parts that it imports for its manufacturing equipment, according to the report filed July 20 with the House clerk's office.
