iPads Will Be Produced In Brazil

A Brazilian Cabinet minister says Apple Inc.'s iPads will be manufactured in the South American country before the end of the year.

SAO PAULO (AP) -- A Brazilian Cabinet minister says Apple Inc.'s Ipads will be manufactured in the South American country before the end of the year.

Science and Technology Minister Aloizio Mercadante says Apple and Taiwanese manufacturer Foxconn will start production by the end of November.

He tells Globo's G1 website and other media that details still need to be discussed, including where the factory will be.

Mercadante's Tuesday announcement came as Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff began a state visit to China at the head of a push by Latin America's biggest economy for more favorable economic ties with its biggest trading partner.

The press office of Apple Inc. in Brazil has not responded to calls seeking comment.
