Wal-Mart To Offer Verizon Wireless iPhone 4

Nation's biggest retailer will begin offering the Verizon Wireless iPhone 4 at nearly 600 of its stores on Thursday.

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (AP) -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will begin offering the Verizon Wireless iPhone 4 at nearly 600 of its stores on Thursday.

The nation's biggest retailer, which already offers the AT&T iPhone 4 at some of its stores, said Wednesday that the Verizon Wireless iPhone 4 is one of almost 20 smart phone models added to its product assortment.

A 16GB version of the Verizon Wireless iPhone 4 will cost $199, with various accessories available for an additional amount.

Neither Wal-Mart nor any other retailers sold the first-generation iPhone launched in January 2007, when it was available only at Apple stores and online through Apple and AT&T. Wal-Mart's first iPhone was the 3G, which it started selling in December 2008, almost two years later. Best Buy was the first independent retail chain to sell the iPhone.

Wal-Mart Stores has more than 8,800 stores in 15 countries.

Shares of the Bentonville, Ark. company added 6 cents to $56.43 in morning trading. Verizon Wireless is owned jointly by Verizon Communications and British telecom Vodafone Group PLC.
