CAT To Use Vehicle Trackers From I.D. Systems

I.D. Systems Inc.'s marketing partner placed a series of orders for wireless vehicle management systems for industrial trucks at three U.S. Caterpillar Inc. factories.

WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J. (AP) -- I.D. Systems Inc., which makes wireless tracking and movement-control systems for vehicles and packages, said Tuesday that its marketing partner, Wiese USA, has placed a series of orders for a wireless vehicle management system to be deployed on industrial trucks at three Caterpillar Inc. factories in the U.S.

Wiese USA is a lift truck dealer and fleet services provider mainly in the Midwestern U.S.

I.D. Systems said in a statement that the vehicle management system will help improve material handling productivity by making sure the equipment is in the right place at the right time and streamlining work flow. The statement did not say how much the deal was worth.

The system also cuts fleet maintenance costs by uploading vehicle data and reporting problems electronically. The system also schedules maintenance based on use rather than calendar date, the company said.

I.D. Systems, based in Woodcliff Lake, N.J., has subsidiaries in Germany and the United Kingdom. Its systems help track and control vehicles, trailers, containers and cargo.

Shares of I.D. Systems rose 7 cents, or 2 percent, to $3.48 in Tuesday morning trading.
