SCHAUMBERG, Ill. (AP) -- Motorola Inc. and Nokia Corp., both of which make wireless handsets and other devices, said Friday they have extended existing licensing agreements to include next-generation high-speed cellular technology.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The companies said the agreements cover technologies such as LTE, WiMax and LTE-Advanced, different flavors of fast new mobile networks.
"This agreement also shows that the industry is making fast progress in resolving LTE licensing issues between the major patent holders," Paul Melin, a vice president at Finland-based Nokia, said in a statement.
Shares of Motorola edged up 3 cents to $7.99 in midday trading. Nokia's U.S.-listed stock slipped 10 cents to $10.86.
