Hewlett-Packard Closes 3Par Purchase

HP said it completed its acquisition of data-storage maker 3Par for $2.35 billion, as it tries to build up its data storage ability and cloud computing businesses.

PALO ALTO, Calif. (AP) -- Hewlett-Packard Co. completed its acquisition of data-storage maker 3Par for $2.35 billion, the company said Monday.

The tender offer, for $33 per share, expired Friday.

Hewlett-Packard recently beat out Dell Inc. in a bid for 3Par, of Fremont, Calif. HP is counting on 3Par Inc. to help build up its data storage ability and cloud computing businesses, which deliver software, data storage and other services to customers over the Internet.

HP said it had acquired 55.9 million 3Par shares, representing an 87.8 percent stake, when the tender offer expired on Friday.
