Peugeot Citroen Trumpets 'New Energy' In Paris

Car manufacturer's chief executive says 'new energy' technologies such as its unique diesel-electric hybrid are a major theme of this year's Paris auto show.

PARIS (AP) -- PSA Peugeot Citroen's chief executive says "new energy" technologies such as its unique diesel-electric hybrid are a major theme of this year's Paris auto show.

France's largest car maker is launching the 3008 HYbrid 4 model at the show, before it goes on sale next year.

The group is targeting annual sales of diesel-electric hybrid vehicles of around 100,000 by 2015, mainly in Europe.

CEO Philippe Varin said Thursday that Peugeot Citroen sees hybrid and fully electric vehicles reaching 15 percent of the global market by 2020. That's well over the 5-percent forecast of PricewaterhouseCoopers' Autofacts consultancy.

Like many carmakers, PSA is targeting China. It's building a third factory there in hopes of nearly doubling its production capacity in China to 750,000 vehicles annually.
