Ametek Acquires Haydon For $270M

Maker of electric motors and battery chargers said it acquired Haydon Enterprises, which makes high-precision motion-control products, for $270 million.

PAOLI, Pa. (AP) -- Ametek Inc., which makes electric motors, battery chargers and products for aerospace, defense and other industries, said Thursday it acquired Haydon Enterprises, which makes high-precision motion-control products, for $270 million.

Ametek expects the deal to add 5 cents per share to its 2010 net income and 13 cents per share in the first full year of ownership.

"Haydon's product line complements our highly differentiated technical motor business, which shares common markets, customers and distribution channels," said Ametek CEO Frank S. Hermance in a statement.

Ametek shares were unchanged at $40.15 during afternoon trading.
