Methode Electronics Sheds 700 Jobs

Electronic components maker cutting 700 Illinois jobs as it moves manufacturing overseas.

CHICAGO (AP) — Electronic components maker Methode Electronics Inc. says it'll cut 700 Illinois jobs as it continues to move manufacturing overseas.

The company says it plans to cut the jobs from its Western Illinois automotive operations in Carthage and Golden.

The company also says it'll stop producing legacy electronic connector products in Rolling Meadows.

The three plants once accounted for nearly 60 percent of the Chicago-based company's sales. But Methode says that's diminished as offshore manufacturing becomes necessary. Meanwhile, demand by American automakers for Methode products is also declining.

The company says the restructuring will take all year.
