Baldor Buys Canada’s Poulies Maska

Electric motor and generator maker said it acquired designer, manufacturer and marketer of sheaves, bushings, couplings and related mechanical power transmission components.

FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) -- Electric motor and generator maker Baldor Electric Co. said Tuesday that it acquired Canada-based Poulies Maska Inc. for an undisclosed sum.

The Ste-Claire, Quebec-based company, is a designer, manufacturer and marketer of sheaves, bushings, couplings and related mechanical power transmission components.

Poulies Maska employs 180 workers in Canada and China and posted sales of about $33 million last year, Baldor said.

Baldor said it expects the acquisition, which was funded with cash and an existing credit facility, to boost its earnings per share by about 3 cents.

Baldor shares rose $1.61, or 4.5 percent, to $37.25 in morning trading.
