Plexus Expanding Manufacturing Capacity In Malaysia

New facility, the third for Plexus, will add 364,000 square feet of manufacturing space.

Plexus Corp., an Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) provider, announced Friday plans to purchase an additional manufacturing facility in Penang, Malaysia.

The new facility, located on 23 acres, will be the third plant for Plexus in Malaysia.

The additional 364,000 square feet of manufacturing space provided by the plant will help Plexus to meet the increasing needs of its customers for advanced, agile manufacturing and fulfuillment solutions.

The initial investment for the new plant, approximately $13.0 million, is expected to be completed in the first fiscal quarter of next year. Production is planned for the late in the second quarter of 2007.

At the new site, Plexus will also build additional space for officies and laboratories as a continution of its local engineering and design capabilities and as part of its development of a Center of Excellence in its Manufacturing and Engineering Services hub in Asia.

Additional investments for the building improvements and expansion and initial outfitting of machinery and equipment is expected to be $25.0 million for fiscal 2007.

This new facility will bring Plexus' manufacturing capacity in Malaysia to about 630,000 square feet.
