Power to you
First choice for automotive IoT
When your industry is going through the biggest disruption in a generation,
you need a partner that knows your business inside and out.
Are you ready for the new industrial revolution?
Car makers, component manufacturers, insurers, fleet operators and the many
other players in the ecosystem are working to adapt to all the new possibilities
that the Internet of Things has opened up.
Today, innovations enabled by the connected car, such as smart fleet
management and usage-based insurance, are still novelties; before long, they’ll
be commonplace. And the pace of change shows no signs of abating.
In times of disruption like these, you need providers by your side that
understand the big picture, and know how things work in your sector. That’s
where we come in. We know automotive, we know IoT, and we have all the
resources and capabilities to meet your connected vehicle needs.
On the cutting edge of IoT
IoT may have hit the headlines in
just the past few years, but the
underlying technology is well proven.
Vodafone has been offering IoT
solutions for nearly 25 years, and
we’re consistently ranked as a leader
by all the leading analyst firms, year
after year— including IoT specialists
like Machina Research and Analysys
Mason, as well as by Gartner, in its
Magic Quadrant.

Everything you need in one place
Look under the hood of any IoT solution and you’ll find a chain of technology
components and services that have to work flawlessly together. When IoT is so
critical to your future, you can’t afford the disruption and delay that comes with
integrating components from multiple providers — or the extra complexity of
doing so on a global scale.
Our IoT solutions are seamlessly integrated to span every element in the
technology stack, and every stage in your project, along with the reassurance
that you only get from a single point of contact.
And because we’re Vodafone, we’ve got the people, the resources and the reach
to support you, no matter how big your ambitions.
The ability to deliver — end to end
From the dashboard to the service centre, IoT solutions involve many different
technology elements. We deliver them all, on a global scale.
91% of businesses
say that when it comes to IoT,
it’s important to work with an

Professional services: your vision,
our experience
Every successful IoT project starts with a strategy. Our experience
working on some of the world’s largest IoT projects means we know
what works. Our consultants can help you build your business case
and forecast your ROI, design your infrastructure, and map out
each stage of your project, from day one to launch and beyond. We
look beyond the technology questions: we can advise on revenue
models, partnerships and regulatory issues, as well as the hardware
and software decision.
Telematics hardware:
where the vehicle meets IoT
You might think of Vodafone as a network provider — but did you
know that we design and manufacture our own hardware too? Our
range of telematics devices, anti-theft systems, parking sensors and
other in-vehicle hardware have been developed for fitment both at
point of manufacture and in the aftermarket. We’re the choice of
premium manufacturers like Porsche, BMW, Maserati and others.
And just like you, we know the importance of exceeding the most
stringent automotive and insurance standards including those
of European bodies like Thatcham (United Kingdom), Kiwa-SCM
(Netherlands), Incert (Belgium) and Pimot (Poland).
Global network: IoT’s nervous system
Your vehicles and drivers could be anywhere in the world, and no
matter where they are, they need fast, reliable connectivity in order
to share data and access applications. Vodafone operates one of the
globe’s largest networks, including not only the 3G and 4G cellular
networks that reach more than 400 million customers every day,
but the thousands of miles of copper and fiber that span continents
and oceans and keep data flowing.
Through our own infrastructure and that of our partners, we cover
nearly 50 worldwide markets in Europe, Africa, Asia and North
America. But 50 markets doesn’t mean 50 different SIM cards
adding complexity to your supply chain. We simplify your global
deployments with a single global SIM (in a range of form-factors)
that roams freely in any country, on any network, giving you easy
billing and your customers the best possible coverage.
Porsche chose us as its strategic
partner to develop and produce
the Car Connect hardware and
software systems, now deployed
around the world.
We’re known for the strength
of our European coverage.
That’s why we’re AT&T’s
roaming partner in Europe
for Porsche, Jaguar and, most
recently, GM, for whom we’ll
be providing services such as
in-car connectivity, security,
diagnostics and eCall.
Work with the experts
Here are six reasons why Vodafone is the clear choice for connected car solutions.
4Vodafone Automotive
We’ve got a
900-strong team
of automotive experts across
the globe.
Cloud and hosting:
a secure home for your applications
At the heart of your IoT infrastructure, data from thousands of
customers must be gathered, processed, shared — in huge
volumes, often in real time, by mission-critical applications. Those
applications and their data need to be hosted on infrastructure that
you can trust to perform, with the scale to handle even the largest
rollouts.
Vodafone offers a range of managed hosting and private cloud
solutions from our 28 data centres around the world, each certified
to meet local regulatory requirements and the highest standards of
security, privacy and availability. How do we know our infrastructure
will meet your needs? We trust it ourselves, to host our own
applications, with millions of concurrent users. And if that’s not
enough, we back up all our solutions with SLAs tailored to your
specific needs.
The Global M2M Platform: putting you in control
The Global M2M Platform is a powerful online hub that gives you
complete management of all of your Vodafone IoT connections in
one place. It offers you instant control of each SIM’s status, alerts
you to any problems, and gives you comprehensive reporting.
Through its flexible APIs, you can flow IoT data to your business
applications. To protect your customers’ data, the Platform features
granular user controls and full end-to-end encryption. And to
ensure you get the best possible experience, the Platform is hosted
and fully managed by us with SLAs for availability.
Service and support: because people matter
Our Secure Operating Centres (SOCs) provide the human face of
IoT, serving as your first point of contact when there’s a problem,
and even acting as an outsourced service team directly serving
your customers. Whether it’s liaising with local police forces to help
recover a customer’s stolen vehicle or even sending out a mechanic
when a driver has broken down, our dedicated operators handle
millions of minutes of contact centre calls for our customers every
day in 49 countries.
For automotive manufacturers
and insurers, we offer the My
Connected Car app and web
portal, created especially
for your customers. It’s
customisable to suit your brand.
And whether enabling your
customers to monitor their
driving behaviour, or personalise
a host of safety and security
systems for their car, you’ll
be providing them with an
accessible and user-friendly way
of communicating with their IoT
technology.

Solutions for automotive
manufacturers
Our in-vehicle hardware and connected telematics solutions help manufacturers
deliver a better experience to consumers and commercial vehicle customers.
Safety and security devices
Vodafone Automotive produces a range of products that you can fit at point of
manufacture or in the aftermarket to make every journey safer and easier for
your drivers, including parking sensors and anti-theft systems.
Security is naturally an important consideration. Our immobilisers, sirens and
motion-triggered alarms go through rigorous testing to exceed OEM standards
and provide the best protection for your vehicles.
And if the worst does happen? We’ve got your customers covered. Our SOC
uses IoT technology to track stolen vehicles by pinpointing the exact location
and speed of the car in real-time across 49 countries using GPS and cellular
signals. Multi-lingual Vodafone Automotive operators then liaise with local
police, in their language, to aid vehicle recovery.
We’ve attained the GM “Standard
of Excellence” and been rated an
“A” supplier by VW Group for our
hardware since 2015.

In-car connectivity
Accenture’s Connected Car Survey1 shows that drivers prize connectivity
even above vehicle performance — it’s a top priority for your buyers. Our
IoT solutions enable you to provide smart connected features, such as live
navigation traffic updates, streaming music and more.
Our Internet-in-the-Car (IITC) service uses Vodafone’s 4G technology to
put a fast and secure Wi-Fi hotspot right in the cabin, offering drivers and
passengers the convenience of internet access wherever they roam across
Vodafone’s footprint.
Remote vehicle monitoring
IoT solutions can help you not only to meet the latest safety and compliance
regulations, but also monitor the health of your vehicles when they’re out on
the road.
From 2018, every new model you manufacture is required to come with
built-in connectivity that can trigger an emergency services alert in the event
of a collision. We provide this eCall technology, but we’re using it to benefit
drivers in other ways too. Vodafone Automotive’s bCall system automatically
transmits vehicle diagnostics to our SOCs, so if your customers need roadside
assistance, we can respond quickly.
That’s not all. Our IoT solutions give you a live connection to the car that
you can use to monitor usage and vehicle faults. You can issue over-the-air
vehicle updates to in-car systems, potentially avoiding expensive recalls, or
automatically book customer vehicles in for a service at a dealer before a fault
is ever noticed by the driver.
The EU’s eCall require all new
cars sold from 2018 have the
capabilities to automatically
alert the emergency services in
the event of a serious accident.

Services for insurers
IoT offers you better ways to monitor vehicles on the road, to manage risk and forge
better relationships with your customers.
Usage-based insurance (UBI)
Road users are looking for personalised insurance premiums that reflect
their real-world driving behaviour, rather than their age or claims history. Our
state-of-the-art telematics systems are equipped with accelerometers and
GPS technology so you can capture real-time driving data and build up a more
accurate picture of who you’re insuring.
And we make it easy for you to manage your UBI clients. You can access the data
via our Managed IoT Connectivity Platform, which enables you to monitor the
location and status of in-car connected devices with greater control and at a
lower cost than previously possible.
Drive up customer engagement
UBI can be the launchpad for value-added customers services. For instance,
the in-car black boxes enable insurance companies to spot when clients have
experienced a crash, breakdown or even theft. By providing automated crash
and breakdown notification – eCall and bCall – you can improve response times
to road accidents. You can improve customer relationships by offering concierge
services, where customers are proactively offered loan cars in the event of an
incident.
UBI enables you to extend your customer relationships in other ways too, for
instance offering smartphone services to interact with clients. Through the
Vodafone My Connected Car mobile app and web portal, drivers learn how to
lower their premiums, reviewing their driving patterns and checking scores for
speed, smoothness and road usage, which are regularly updated according to
recent performance.
We’ve been working for Generali
to offer UBI — the first service
of its kind in Italy — since 2010.
The business now installs 800 of
our units every day.

Fraud prevention
Fraudulent claims are a big problem for both drivers and insurance providers,
with the Association of British Insurers estimating that fraud adds, ÂŁ50 a year to
each British driver’s insurance policy.
To combat this, insurance providers are using driver diagnostics and automated
detection to determine under which conditions drivers tend to have accidents
and to help assess the validity of each and every claim.
Vodafone Automotive provides you with a complete crash reconstruction
report: including speed graphs; three axis acceleration; maps; driver and vehicle
information; and positioning data, so you have a clear insight into every accident
reported.
As an insurer, or fleet operator, you can not only reduce the number of claims
you pay out on, but also provide customers with a better claims experience
while bringing down the overall cost of coverage.
9 Vodafone Automotive
Solutions for fleet operators
Our solutions enbale you to better manage costs, reduce risks, and use assets more
effectively.
Managing your fleets
Operating a fleet of vehicles is a big business cost — whether they’re delivery
vans, rental vehicles or company cars — so it’s important that you protect your
investment. Our fleet telematics solutions are helping companies to track the
location of their vehicles.
Vodafone Automotive fleet management features include:
• Unique tracking and managment service. You get up-to-date, accurate
insight into location, status, and speed of your vehicles.
• Extensive reporting and mapping. Our extensive reports enable you to drill
into the details of your fleet operations and identify opportunities to realise
cost savings.
• Electronic First Notification of Loss (eFNOL). Our crash alert capabilities
ensure the right person in your organisation is immediately contacted in the
event of an accident, providing them with the vehicle’s details, and the time
and location of the incident.
Fulfilling your duty of care
Employers are today expected to take the welfare of their staff seriously — even
when they’re out of the office. Safety on the road is a real concern.
Vodafone Automotive’s fleet management solutions enable employers to
capture driver, location and vehicle data — and in the event of an accident,
automatically alert the emergency services.
These solutions also enable employers to demonstrate compliance with
regulations such as the European Working Time Directive, by providing a
detailed breakdown of the hours drivers are on the road.
TNT wanted a clearer picture of
where its assets were located
and when deliveries were taking
place. Vodafone Automotive
enabled it to connect
thousands of objects, from
delivery vehicles and parcel
scanners to electronic proof of
delivery (EPOD), enabling the
business to detect in real time
when a vehicle had broken down
or been delayed, and track the
journeys of valuable or sensitive
shipments from source to
destination.
