Toshiba Resumes Chip Production After Quake

The earthquake registered a magnitude of 6.6.

Toshiba partially restarted production at a semiconductor plant after an earthquake halted operations, Reuters reports.

Toshiba announced it restarted one of two production lines but did not disclose when the other would reopen.

When operations shut down, the company was still analyzing damage and the impact on production.

The plant in southern Japan makes LSI chips, 60% of which are sold to automakers and industrial machinery makers.

The earthquake registered a magnitude of 6.6 and injured 13 people.

There were no injuries reported at the Toshiba facilities.

According to a U.S. Department of Commerce survey, demand for semiconductors in 2021 was up 17% since 2019.
