GreenBroz Retrofits Cannabis Extractor Into PPE Cleaner

The prototype may be the best way to sterilize PPE, including fabric coveralls, masks and gowns.

GreenBroz typically manufactures automated harvesting equipment for the cannabis industry.

The company shifted gears and retrofitted the Alchemist Trichome Extractor, originally designed to process cannabis, to sterilize personal protective equipment (PPE).

GreenBroz CEO Cullen Raichart said "we want to be part of the solution," so he built the Gard'n Clean chlorine dioxide (Cl02) system for hospitals.

The extractor now has an Optek-Danulat Cl02 gas detection advanced sensing system, which detects the level of Cl02 in the rotating drum.

Gard'n Clean Cl02 is a sterilant that is EPA-registered, FDA approved, OMRI organic certified and NSF listed. It’s eco-friendly with no special handling or disposal and the activated solution has a neutral pH, so can help retain fibrous material integrity.

According to Shamol Vyas, founder of Gard'n Clean, using Cl02 is the only way to fully remediate without damaging or leaving a residue on disinfected material. He says the retrofitted extractor is the best way to sterilize PPE, including fabric coveralls, masks and gowns.

Scott Rotary seals allow the Cl02 to enter the rotating chamber; and the Kaman Automation HMI touchscreen is easy to clean and usable with minimal contact.

The PPE Remediator has surgical-grade stainless steel, a whisper quiet motor and measures just 40” x 52” x 60” with a capacity of 8 cubic feet. It is built to be able to fit on-site in a healthcare setting, eliminating the need to transport contaminated PPE to a larger machine on a separate floor.

The prototype is currently seeking FDA Fast Track approval.

An active two-stage filtration system ensures complete decontamination, while a Cl02 detector monitors functionality for safety.
