The future of equally dangerous and spectacular technology is near. The U.S. Navy and Raytheon recently announced they had successfully used a high-powered, solid state laser to shoot down several drones near the California coastline. Once the laser technology is perfected, the defense contractor is expected to develop a laser system that can shoot down incoming missiles, UAVs, or even aircraft.

This system has the potential to be a key technological solution for Navy ships, which would otherwise have to use valuable storage space for missiles and other projectiles.
