Chris Gardner, author and subject of the 2006 movie The Pursuit of Happyness, which stars Will Smith, has dedicated his life to offering advice to individuals struggling through hard times. His message: Start where you are. That sounds pretty obvious, but Gardner advocates self-reflection and recognizing just how many opportunities and tools are out there as two of the major ways individuals can not only survive, but thrive, through the hard times brought on by the tough economy and unemployment.
