As a graduate student at MIT, Cynthia Breazeal wondered why the government sent a robot to Mars but we didn't have robots in our living rooms. She determined that robotics had really been about interacting with things, not with people. As a result, she dedicated her career to developing and creating robots that teach, learn, and interact with humans.
