Sticking Your Hand In The Large Hadron Collider

Sixty Symbols asks the world's best physicists a relatively simple question: What would happen to your hand if you stuck it inside the Large Hadron Collider? A small sampling of possible answers:

"Not a good idea."

"I don't think you'd feel very much."

"These protons have an energy ... over 7 TeV. That's about the energy of a mosquito."

"The total energy stored in that beam is about 300 megajoules. That's like the energy of an aircraft carrier moving at 11 knots."

Also stay tuned for answers regarding some of the unknowns in physics, such as if other universes are possible (and what they would be like), and if mankind might someday be wiped out thanks to a supernova star.
