Manufacturing Minute: Planes With Detachable Passenger Cabins

In this episode, a commercial plane that breaks apart ... for safety.

In this episode, a commercial plane that breaks apart for safety. This is your Manufacturing Minute.

Air travel is getting safer every year, but we still canโ€™t prevent 100 percent of plane failures.

Ukrainian aviation engineer Vladimir Tatarenko has designed a plane to acknowledge that inevitability.

According to Tatarenkoโ€™s design, the passenger cabin would act like a capsule that slides beneath a shell attached to the wings and cockpit.

If the plane encounters trouble, the passenger capsule can eject and parachutes would carry the cabin to safety.

Inflatables along the bottom of the cabin would ensure a gentle landing and keep the passengers safely afloat in the event of a water landing.

So, What Do You Think?

Would you feel safer in the skies if you knew your plane could detach its passenger cabin? Do you think this is a design that the industry would adopt?
