Hydrogen Powers The 21st Century

Plug Power (Latham, NY) has developed the GenDrive GD-160 and GD-170, which are fuel cell power units for a variety of material handling operations, including forklifts. The GenDrive holds enough fuel to sustain a counterbalanced truck at full-speed throughout an entire shift, without any reduction of power, unlike batteries.

Once depleted, the GenDrive can be fueled in as little as 180 seconds. Other features on the GenDrive fuel cell system include:

  • The ability to retrofit battery-powered material handling vehicles with SB 350 standard connectors.
  • Zero emissions.
  • Fast refueling via an in-plant hydrogen station.
  • The ability to remove battery rooms from facilities, which helps reclaim floor space.
