Pregis Corp. (Deerfield, IL) has introduced a new hybrid cushioning system that can handle multiple roll widths (up to 32”) via a dispenser head than is 60 percent smaller than previous models. The Air Speed HV Versa can provide cushioning in three different widths: 24” wide cushions from 32” rolls, as well as 18” and 12” wide size. Three different cell heights are also possible: 3/4”, 1”, and 1-1/4”. According to the company, hybrid cushioning differs from traditional void-fill pillows because it uses multiple air chambers in a horizontal and vertical pattern, versus one large cell. The HC Versa can accommodate traditional virgin air cushioning material, reduced gauge structures, recycled content, or material designed to accelerate microbial biodegradation.
